Growing up in Australia and going back there a few years ago, I can't help but notice the trends in their interiors. First of all, having sunshine 10 months of the year, they are lovers of the outdoors. Therefore, when they are inside they love to incorporate the exterior feel in their interiors as much as humanly possible. They do this in several ways.
1. Letting in the light. It is common to have floor to ceiling windows, sliding doors, french doors, and sky lights. Not only does this let in light, but a cooling breeze also does wonders.
2. Plants Bringing in lots of tropical flowers, cacti and plants is a must. Because of the harsh sun, having a garden outside takes a lot of time and effort to maintain, so keeping plants indoors, where its easy to water and view are perfect. The Venus fly trap is always a go to choice to keep the pesky flies at bay.
3. Earthy tones. Olive green, rustic orange and warm reds to reflect the landscape are always a popular choice. Because they never have to worry about feeling cold by the temperatures falling below zero, the can be more carefree with the cool colour palette. Australia has a beautiful landscape reflected in their interiors. At this time of year, I feel i might need to go on a trip back there.... for research of course ;)
I'm so happy you're here! My name is Rosalee and I LOVE all things bright & beautiful. As a young girl, I was always captivated by a beautiful piece of artwork or a moving song. So, with the help of schooling and some inspirational travel, I now make it my mission to take beautiful concepts and catalyze functional designs- creating places of being for ones own individuality and style.
